What is State Civil Service?

     Each state and union territory in India has its own State Civil Services, which are responsible for various administrative functions, including the implementation of Government policies, maintenance of law and order, Revenue administration and development activities within their respective jurisdictions.
The officers of the State Civil Service or State Administrative Service are recruited through state-specific examinations conducted by the respective State Public Service Commissions.
All State Administrative Services officers in Tamil Nadu are state civil servants posted as Deputy Collector cum Sub-divisional Magistrate in various sub districts.

They belong to Group 'A' gazetted rank the officers of state civil services cadre are later promoted to Indian Administrative Service.
The State Administrative Service is conceived as a feeder service for the Indian Administrative Service in the respective state cadre.
